Dr. Ryan Dabbs is breaking new ground among orthopedic surgeons in Tennessee: he’s offering the newest technology in knee replacement at his Parkwest Medical Center location.
He has acquired the Persona IQ, “a sensor-enabled knee replacement that allows remote monitoring of a patient’s steps, knee range of motion and gait analytics,” said Dabbs, who lives just outside of Farragut near Hardin Valley.
To the world, this is the first smart implant-Zimmer Biomet Persona IQ, said Dale Thorley, a Zimmer Biomet sales associate. “Dr. Dabbs will be the first in Tennessee to offer this exciting new device.”
“Persona IQ was designed to empower you with smart post-operative metrics, ensure you’re connected with your patients through the Mymobility Care Management Platform and is simple to use with automated data flow and an intuitive user interface,” the press release stated.
“It is basically a built-in gait lab with accelerometer and gyrometer sensors and helps give the surgeon and the patient more information, a daily progress report, to ensure they are appropriately improving in the postoperative period, Dabbs said.
“If any concerning or abnormal metrics are seen, we may be able to intervene sooner to help the patient get back on track,” he added.
“I’m a strong believer in using technology to help improve patient outcomes and experiences, and I was the first surgeon in Tennessee to offer the ROSA robotic-assisted knee replacement a few years ago.”
The new technology “will also provide data for future improvements in knee replacements, showing us how patients do with exact knee replacement measurements that can fine tune the way we, as surgeons, perform knee replacements and, more specifically, how a patient can expect to recover,” Dabbs said.
“All this to improve outcomes and satisfaction,” Dabbs added. “The smart implant will help us get a patient as close to normal gait and knee function as possible.
